Hugh Green finished his school days at the grand age of twelve years old when he left school to seek his fortune. He initially worked as a cattle drover in Donegal before heading to Scotland, where work was plentiful with the Scotland Hydroelectric Board on their “Power from the Glens” project after World War II…

Maryanne Green established the Hugo Charitable Trust in 2017 to continue the legacy of helping others started by her father, Hugh Green. Hugh Green’s aim was to assist poor people in social and medical areas; to give back to the people of New Zealand but never forgetting where he came from.

Hugh Green Audio & Video

Hugh Green was born in Raphoe in County Donegal in 1931. Growing up in a family of eight children in a small town in rural Ireland there were no luxuries, but Hugh enjoyed his childhood in the close-knit Raphoe community. Hugh emigrated to NZ where he worked hard and earned business success.
