Story provided

Tironui Music Trust is humbled and grateful for the support of the Hugo Charitable Trust, helping to nurture and support three young musicians to reach their potential and achieve their ambitions through music.

The Tironui Music Trust is dedicated to empowering young New Zealanders through the transformative power of music. We provide fully funded instrumental music programmes to students who might not otherwise have the opportunity, fostering diligence, confidence, and a lifelong love of music. Started by our founders Peter and Pam Hubscher, the Tironui programme has run for 18 years and supports students in Papatoetoe & Mt Wellington, South Auckland.

The generous donation of the Hugo Charitable Trust will support three talented and dedicated young musicians with the opportunity to develop their skills and reach their musical potential. The scholarships will provide individual tuition with a Tironui Music Trust tutor, access to higher level instruments, funding of external music exams, performance opportunities, mentoring opportunities with players from Auckland Philharmonia, and other chances to nurture our talented young musicians as they take their next steps on their musical journey.

Hugo Charitable Trust support will inspire increased ambition and love of music for these tamariki and their whānau. The three scholarship recipients are:

Patchara Khamphawa (violin)
Patchara started learning the violin just over 2 years ago, and has made exceptional progress. He has already passed Grade 4 Violin, playing at a level equivalent to Year 12 – NCEA Level 2 at the end of primary school.

Samaira Ahmed (violin)
Having recently finished at Papatoetoe Central School, Samaira is a student who loves exploring the different sound world that the violin can create. She has made rapid progress on the violin, also reaching Grade 4 and is excited by the new opportunities the Hugo Charitable Trust Scholarship will bring.

Moriyyah Talamaivao-Tagaloamatua (viola)
Music plays an important part in the family life of Moriyyah. She enjoys the expressive sound of the viola, and her determination to succeed will undoubtedly stand her in good stead as she takes her musicianship and playing to the next level through her scholarship.
